How important is it to hire the right person to work in your real estate business?
One of the most important things you will have to do as an owner of your real estate business, if you want to take your business to the next level, will be hiring the right people for your company. From choosing a buyer’s agent to hiring an assistant, adding the wrong person to your business is a time-consuming process with monetary and reputational consequences.
I have seen the impacts of making a bad hire in my own businesses over the years and it continues to be one of the hardest things I have to do as an owner but I have learned a lot about what to do and not do when it comes to choosing the right person. I have shared some things I have learned below and I hope they help you with your process in your own business.
Taking the time to find the right person — someone who is not just technically capable but also a good fit for your company — is so important. The right person should have your same level of professionalism & genuinely care about your business not just their own paycheck.
Companies that are successful in hiring have a process that includes attracting high-quality candidates, evaluating them in several different areas, and taking the time to get to know the people in different ways.
What to do if you do make a bad hire? Do not hesitate in your decision regarding what role this person continues to fill in your business. When you “know” the person is a bad hire for whatever reason. Hesitating in releasing this person from your company never changes them into a good hire and it only results in wasted time, energy and money in the long run. Letting someone go is never fun. However, this is when you honestly have to be the owner of your business even if you are uncomfortable for a few moments.
